News24xx.com - SMP Negeri 2 Jatibarang, Brebes, Central Java, has held face-to-face learning activities for the past three weeks. This face-to-face learning is being carried out secretly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The school argued that face-to-face learning (PTM) was based on pressure from the parents.

Deputy Head of Jatibarang 2 Public Middle School, Iman Rifai when met at his workplace Wednesday (4 August 2020) afternoon explained, PTM was held because of the insistence of most parents or guardians of students. They asked the school to reopen the classroom for face-to-face learning.

"We are all very aware that currently, it is still in a pandemic era. Learning should be done online. But in reality, online cannot run smoothly. So many parents ask us to come face to face. Even signed a statement," said Iman. Rifai.

The student's guardian argued that online method learning could not be followed due to the availability of an internet network in the student's residence. In this school, many students live in areas that are not covered by the internet. Even if there is a network, it is also very weak and cannot support students studying online.

Another and most crucial reason is that many students do not have cellphones or laptops. According to the school, not a few students at SMP Negeri 2 Jatibarang come from underprivileged or middle-low families.

Imam said, of the 960 students, about 10-15 percent did not have cellphones. They mostly come from underprivileged or lower-middle-class families. "If it helps with the quota package for students, it can be taken from BOS funds. But if you have to buy 100 or 150 units of HP students for students, that clearly violates the rules," he added.

In order not to raise suspicion from the COVID-19 Task Force, the school deliberately held this PTM secretly. The trick, students are not allowed to wear uniforms when leaving for school.

Face-to-face learning at this school, Wakasek continued, was carried out in a rotating way. The first shift of class 7 starts at 07.00 and returns at 09.30. Class 8 starts at 08.00 to 10.30 and class 9 starts at 08.30 to 11.30 am.

"We apply health protocols. Masks and hand washing are mandatory. Each class is also filled with a maximum of 16 people because they take turns. Every week students depart three times," explained the Deputy Chief. There is a 'Hidden' School in Brebes, to Help Students Don't Have Mobile Phones.
