News24xx.com - The Regent of Indragiri Hilir Regency, HM Wardan, was the speaker for the webinar organized by "Sawit Watch", Wednesday (5/8/2020) at the Office of the PS Diskominfo, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Tembilahan. The discussion, which was held by a non-governmental organization, was entitled "Opportunities for the Development of Coconut Commodities during the Moratorium and Evaluation Period for Oil Palm Plantations,".

This discussion specifically discusses opportunities and strategies for developing coconut commodities in the midst of oil palm expansion and during the existence of a moratorium policy on oil palm plantations through Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2018 concerning postponement and evaluation of oil palm plantation permits and increasing productivity of oil palm plantations.

The Regent of Indragiri Hilir, HM Wardan was chosen as one of the presenters for the webinar "Sawit Watch" because it is known that Inhil Regency is one of the districts which is famous in terms of coconut commodity development.

According to the Regent, several important things to be done by the regional government in the context of developing coconut commodities are delaying the issuance of recommendations for oil palm business licenses and opening of new oil palm lands in forest areas.

Apart from that, the Regent revealed that it is necessary to collect data and map all plantation areas in areas that are managed by an agency or individual, covering the area of ??land and year of planting.

"Since 2014, the Indragiri Hilir Regency Government has no longer issued permits for land clearing for oil palm plantations with new land clearing because the Regional Government is more focused on developing existing coconut commodities," said the Regent.

The Regent also said that Indragiri Hilir Regency had a large stretch of coconut plantation. In fact, Indragiri Hilir Regency has earned the nickname "The Land of the World's Largest Coconut Expanse".

"It is recorded that the area of ??smallholder coconut plantations, namely deep coconut types, has an area of ??up to 323,079 hectares and hybrid coconut covering an area of ??38,404 hectares," said the Regent while saying that the majority of people or more than 70 percent of the people of Kabuapten Inhil are coconut farmers.

In this virtual discussion, the Regent of Indragiri Hilir Regency, HM Wardan was accompanied by the Head of the Indragiri Hilir Regency Plantation Office, the Acting Head of the Inhil Regency Trade and Industry Office (Disdagtri) and the Secretary (the One-Stop Investment and Integrated Services Office) DPMPTSP of Indragiri Regency Downstream.
