Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Japanese government was forced to cut the budget of the suicide hotline service. This makes them forced to lose some staff who should be employed.

And if this happens for two years, the study shows the total unemployment could reach 8 percent where the number of suicides jumped to 39,000.
