A Shinking Ship! 58 Migrants Drown in the Atlantic Ocean

A number of migrants crossing the waters of the famous Atlantic Ocean are so deadly. On their voyage, their ship capsized, and they tried to head to safety. However, unlucky, 58 people from the crew sank and died.

A number of victims received treatment Thursday in Mauritania. It is said to be one of the deadliest disasters this year among people making dangerous trips to Europe.

Based on information from the head of the mission in the West African country, the ship left Gambia a week ago and brought at least 150 people, including women and children. They were going to the Canary Islands by trying to approach the coast of Mauritania to get fuel and food.

"Many drowned. Survivors swam to the coast of Mauritania near the town of Nouadhibou," he said.

At least 83 people swam to shore, the agency said. A number of unknown injuries were taken to the hospital in Nouadhibou.

However, until now, the total number of missing persons has yet to be ascertained.

Survivors said the ship had left Gambia on November 27.

There was no immediate statement from the authorities in Gambia, where tens of thousands of people departed in hopes of reaching Europe in recent years. Despite its small size, more than 35,000 Gambians arrived in Europe between 2014 and 2018, according to UN migration agents.

The 22-year government run by former President Yahya Jammeh has greatly influenced the country's economy, especially for young people. He made a major contribution to the exodus.
